So its been a while since we have made a post so here goes.
As I'm sure everyone knows by now this school year we moved into our new room, room 131 nicknamed "The Zone". It has a few bad points no getting away from that *No washroom attached to the room. *No Kitchen attached to the room. *No window to the outside world. But you know what we are an adaptive bunch, Everyone in the room can get themselves to the nearest washroom without a fuss. We get to go on walks so the lack of a window is really not a big issue for us and OMG...they have food not only in the office but also in room 120, and as long as we have finished our work we can stretch our legs and get a snack. (editors note: This snacks are paid for by the breakfast program, we do have snacks and milk in the unit but somehow food from afar is always better.) Ok thats the bad now the good..... * The room is huge. * We have separate desks and area to work in private if we need it, there is a chill area and a play area and even a quiet room, with a pea-pod. *did we mention the room is huge...it is we love it. You guys should pop in one day and see it, we can show you our desk (and where we pop our finished work. We don't spend all our time in the zone in fact only 2 students are scheduled in there for all four periods this semester. And then each day we are out and about delivering attendance for Mr Crittall (and socializing with other staff members but don't tell Mr Crittall.) Taking drinks for people (and socializing again) We collect recycling and fill the milk and pop machines, We also leave the building to swim, visit the library and to shop. Over all we thought this was going to be a difficult move for us, but we are far more adaptive than that and it has been a easy change, (even when Mr Crittall sneakily moves something in the room.) Yours Students from "the Zone"

Mondays this semester have been a fairly damp affair. Which I guess is just as well as we have been having our swimming lessons. Each Monday for 8 weeks we have been put though our paces by the instructors at the P & H Centre.
We have swam Front Crawl, Back Crawl Practiced our bobs as well as working on our dives. And what have we got out of all this hard work and effort? Well it was fun for a starter, but more than that, I have improved in leaps and bounds this year to the point where I feel very confident in my front crawl, (and I’ve been told it looks good too). We have learnt the pool rules and practiced keeping afloat which given where we live might be a useful thing. I cannot wait to go back to the pool next semester and improve on what we did this semester. In conclusion I would like to say a big thank you to the pool staff who take such good care of us and for me a big thank you to my instructor “Super Tracy”. Nik Vance Well hi there I want to tell you about some of the things we have been doing in the first week of school. In the mornings, we work with Mr. Crittall, and Ms. Ray. Every day seems to be different. But luckily we have our own schedules the Mr. Crittall puts out each day to let us know what's in store for us.
Monday's Monday normally starts with us discussing what we did over the weekend. Then we complete our Journal(I'm working on keeping my writing neat and compact I'm doing pretty well). Then we might complete a math sheet or hook up the computer and listen to a story. After a snack we walked to this pool and have a swimming lesson. Tuesday's Tuesday starts pretty much the same as Monday Journal done some work or possibly counting money. But after snack we traveled to the library downtown and sit and look at book's. This week Jenny was a little damp as it was raining and I forgot my jacket, opps. Wednesday's you guessed it we do Journal Wednesday followed by a worksheet. It's like we head down to the shops and walk around finding this week's ingredients for a cooking lesson. It's pretty cool and we get to make decisions about what we are going to buy and what we want to eat. Although sometimes it can be a little hard to find things in the store but we are getting better. Thursday's okay I'm not even to mention Journal but Thursday is the day we get to cook this is the best day of the week! We have made omelettes, muffins, wraps and a pizza. Friday’s Fridays is meant to be our chill day and to be fair we have done some painting but Mr. Crittall tends to find us some work to do. In the Afternoon we tend to have the same structure each day we have Gym with Mr. Chiddick and Life Skills with Mrs Peiman but that is another matter and I will save that for another student to tell. Best wishes Luke Did you know I can cook! Well Mr Crittall has got our class to cook, me and Luke (My buddy) Make some Muffins last week. And although I did get some egg on the counter the muffins were delicious. Oh and don’t worry I cleaned up the egg no problem.
Well that was just the start, this week all three of us (Me Luke and Melissa) made omelets. We mixed up two eggs and then grated up some cheese. We poured the egg into a frying pan and made sure it didn’t burn when it was brown on the bottom we added cheese and folded it. I gave mine to Mr. Crittall as I don’t eat egg and he said it was great, He sure did wolf it done fast. Luke said his was great and Melissa ate all hers although I think she made scrambled eggs rather than an omelet, but Mr. Crittall didn’t mind as long as she did it. I wonder what we will make next week? By Jordan We have got through our first week back at school.
We have found out that our New teacher is from England and so says some funny things sometimes. He also has Dyslexia and we noticed that he made some mistakes on the forms he sent out for swimming, He says he doesn't mind if we point out any mistakes, as everyone makes mistakes at some point or other he just makes a few more than most. On the plus side We have done some baking, We have been eating those muffins all week. We have also been out to the 2 dollar sores in town and we have been coloring some fall pictures. Mr Crittall has come up with a period B plan for us and we will try to follow it until it starts to (shh) snow. Mondays - Swimming (Woohoo) Tuesday - Visit to Library in town Wednesday - Shopping day Thursday - Cooking something for lunch day. Friday - Art work day. This school year, we welcome a new teacher to our DL program here at the JDSS.
Graden Crittall has been teaching in the Bluewater board for nine years, and previously has talked both in the UK as well as spending one year teaching in Kenya. Graden first became interested in teaching special needs while in the UK while working in a co-located school. ( Two schools sharing one site, both operating independently of sharing some of the facilities. One was a"mainstream" school, and one was a "special education" school. During His prep time he would bring classes into the mainstream schools to teach them science, as well as spending time with them in their home classes. Graden spent the last seven years running running the special education programs at Peninsula Shores and most recently Kincardine where he was working with our new principal Mr. DeKraker. I'm sure you will join the staff in making him feel welcome at this his new school. |
